The Transport and Logistics (T&L) industry in Australia faces a serious challenge in terms of attracting and retaining enough skilled workers to meet a projected tripling of the national freight task by 2050.
The current industry age profile is heavily skewed towards near retirees, and the community views jobs within the industry in a negative light. In a fiercely competitive job market with the national unemployment rate at approximately 5%, significant efforts must be put into attracting new staff, and retaining those already skilled if the Australian industry is to remain globally competitive.
