The south-bound carriage way of the South Rd Superway opened to traffic for the first time on 31 January 2014.
The 2.8km elevated roadway spans 83 metres across Grand Junction Road and is expected to cut travel times by up to 7mins. Potentially 45,000 vehicles are expected to benefit through the use of the new section of road everyday. Federal Assistant Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Jamie Briggs and SA Minister Tom Koutsantonis opened the south bound carriage way to traffic.
Both ministers highlighted the positive impact the Superway will have on the productivity and competitiveness of Industry in South Australia and improvements to travel times for commut-ers and freight transport.
This is a significant piece of infrastructure that once completed and fully open in March 2014 will move South Australia closer to the goal of a 78km North South corridor stretching form Gawler to Old Noarlunga.
